I think this is an incredible story of how the internet sometimes performs miracles. I had a band back in the early 70s called Due East. I lost track of a guy who played in the last iteration of that group named Ric McBride, a phenomenal bass player by the way. Then his wife Rose tracked me down a few years ago, and we've stayed in touch via email.
Then during Masumi's and my visit to America last month, we reconnected face-to-face. It had been almost 45 years since I'd seen Ric. Yes, he's changed in some ways, sporting an awesome beard and a few more pounds. But he's still a phenomenal person, funny and generous, mellow and kind. Both he and Rose are truly wonderful people and they showed us around the area they live in -- Aromas, CA -- and took us to the world-famous aquarium in Monterrey. We drove along the coastline and even watched some sea otters playing off the shore. It was truly incredible to get together again and realize how much we still have in common.
